As part of the First Week of the Italian Cuisine in the World event and the "Valorisation and promotion of authentic Italian agri-food products” project, the Italian Chamber of Commerce in Miami organised an initiative to raise awareness of authentic Italian products, that was targeted at very specific operators: journalists, food bloggers and restaurants. The objective of the event was to promote awareness and provide information on the correct use of authentic Italian cheese and salami – some of the most imitated products in the USA – while at the same time encouraging American representatives to open their doors to the “Federazione Italiana Cuochi” (Federation of Italian Chefs). The highlights of the event were the presentation of the specific characteristics of the products and their correct use by Italian chefs in the kitchen and a selection of the most suitable wines to accompany Italian cheeses and salamis, held by a sommelier and nutritionist, who provided information on the Mediterranean Diet, underlining the nutritional differences between authentic products and imitations. After a screening of a series of videos, there was a guided tasting session of the presented PDO-PGI products and information was distributed on The Extraordinary Italian Taste campaign.
