In June and July 2017 there were two events of the media dinners series, in which various PDO and PGI products were accompanied by a selection of Italian wines. An enogastronomy class was held by Tyler Dawson, an experienced sommelier, with the partnership of the Association Of Italian Chefs of Canada, the Glowbal Group and Italian Kitchen, an Ospitalità Italiana certified restaurant.
The products were identified thanks to labels with the project logo, which stated their name and PDO/PGI status. The wines were identified by creating specific table mats with the name and characteristics of each wine.
The first event, held on 7th June 2017, was called Bollicine Italiane – Italian Sparkling Wines. The two-hour event focused on Italian sparkling wines and included a tasting session organised specifically for that dinner.
A number of media representatives and influencers attended, including:

  • Kimberly Duffels, blogger from MyVanCity.ca,
  • Jim Robertson, International Wine & Food Society,
  • Valerie Van der Gracht, Editor & Publisher of MyVanCity.ca,
  • Kate Bilanik, General Manager of Nicli Antica Pizzeria.

During the event, Tyler Dawson, with the help of audio-visual support, provided a detailed explanation of the organoleptic properties of every wine, the traditional techniques used in Italy for vine-growing, fermentation and aging and the characteristics of the production areas. He did not forget to add important historical and ethnographic facts linked to the territorial products and to the combination with authentic agri-food products.
The second meeting, held on 5th July 2017, was focused on Italian Rose’ wines, so it was fittingly called Rose’, Rosato, Ramato – Drink Italian Pink.
The attending media representatives included:

  • Ron Wilson, wine blogger for Cheap and Cheerful,
  • Gloria Cheng, journalist, writer, Broadcaster for Wineadventures,
  • Gail Nugent, publisher for Westender.

On this occasion as well, during the tasting session, Tyler Dawson provided a detailed explanation on the characteristics of each wine and on the areas they are produced in.
