Organised by the Italy-America Chamber of Commerce of Texas as part of the “Valorisation and promotion of authentic Italian agri-food products” project and the First Week of Italian Cuisine in the World initiative, “Italian Restaurant Week” was held in Houston and Austin. The objective of the Italian Restaurant Week, which is targeted at the American agri-food supply chain and local consumers, is to raise awareness of the qualities of authentic Italian products through the creation of menus with two or three dishes made from authentic and certified Italian products, such as Grana Padano, Piave, Parmigiano Reggiano, Bella della Daunia olives, aceto balsamico di Modena vinegar, Prosciutto di Parma and rice. The menus were prepared by eight Houston and four Austin-based restaurants that also decided to donate a percentage of the week’s profits to the regions in Central Italy that were affected by the violent earthquake of September 2016.
